From a Shared Vision to a Life-Changing
Ministry
The beginning
Men Following Christ began in 1999, originally under the name Hillside Ministries. It was founded by Don Clemens and Rod Mayer, two men who shared a vision of seeing 4,000 men gathered on the hillside near Clemens’ home in Winona Lake, Indiana—the very place where the renowned evangelist Billy Sunday once preached. After reconnecting after 20 years, Clemens and Mayer were inspired to create a space for men to grow spiritually and become stronger leaders in their homes, churches, and communities.
From the beginning, the focus of Men Following Christ has been clear:
To evangelize, establish, equip, encourage, and extend men in their faith.
To foster personal transformation that starts with one man and ripples out to impact families, communities, states, and even nations.
We change one man at a time. The key is to be a fully devoted follower of Christ as found in the Bible.
Our Foundation
The teachings at Men Following Christ are grounded in four core biblical principles:
Each monthly gathering focuses on these principles, providing men with opportunities for fellowship, worship, teaching, and testimonies.
Growth and Impact
Men Following Christ has grown to represent men from over 40 different churches across northern Indiana and beyond, including areas like Kosciusko County, Columbia City, Rochester, and North Manchester. The ministry aims to:
- Establish discipleship groups within local churches.
- Help pastors and leaders develop men who are outstanding leaders and faithful heads of households—as encouraged in 1 Chronicles 7:40.

More than two decades later, Men Following Christ continues to be a thriving ministry, empowering men to walk faithfully with Christ and lead others by example.
“Men have shirked the responsibility,” Clemens said. “Technology has exploded, but there has not been a corresponding growth in relationships. The Bible directs men to lead, and that is what we aim to encourage.”
